Today, we finally gave in and took him to the Highlands Ranch High School parking lot to practice. We were a little (ok, really!) nervous for him, given his boyish tendencies to fall and scrape himself. However, he made it look easy and was crusing around the lot in no time. I am not sure what is funnier in this video, my boys or Jon chasing them :)

Yet another milestone as my kiddos grow up so quickly (sniff, sniff!).

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://miresmusings.blogspot.com/2010/08/look-ma-no-training-wheels.html' title='Look Ma! I need to get this thing updated more than every three months (or four now?). Guess that's what I get for working three jobs (not counting the unpaid ones).

We celebrated Asher's first birthday on March 31st. I can't believe how fast the year went. His first experience with a cupcake was a messy one, of course.

Asher is always quick to answer the question of how big he is with a "SOOO big" gesture.

Easter was a glorious celebration here. We went to church in the morning, came back home for Asher's nap, then returned to church for a classic pitch-in. In the afternoon, Eli hunted for goodies left by the Bunny in our backyard. We even snapped a rare family picture in front of the neighbor's beautiful magnolia tree.

We're going full-speed ahead into the spring, and I am only seven weeks away from a much needed summer vacation! I think the best part is the week off of school I get, which unfortunately just ended. But we stayed busy during that week, traveling to my Mom's in PA and visiting Amish country while there. Asher got to take his first train ride on an old-fashioned steam locomotive. It took us to Paradise (literally, a tiny little town, one of many in Pennsylvania with quaint names).

Eli finished his first Y-soccer season and loved it. What a riot to see 3- and 4-year-olds swarming a ball and each other!

When Jon got back into town on Saturday he was anxious to get outside to do something, so we ventured to the corn maze. The pumpkin patch there was closed due to early snows/frosts, so we brought along our own and received plenty of comments on our adorable "pumpkin".

Of course it wouldn't be October without a good romp in the leaves with the neighbors. And last night we enjoyed a cul-de-sac pumpkin party. Eli was the cutest little cop, and Asher was a precious dragon.

More pics to come...it's not even Halloween!

Bathtime Brothers

Who can resist a great bathtime snapshot?

Here are a few we've taken recently, as Asher has just started liking the water (or actually not hating it). Eli took advantage of the opportunity to read a story to his brother. How sweet! Our friends/neighbors gave us a swing, which Asher absolutely loved. Check out the adorable video of him laughing!

Since we moved in mid-summer last year, this is our first season to have a garden at this house. We have really enjoyed working outside in it, as well as the fruits of our labor! Two tomato bushes (that look more like trees), a cherry tomato plant, green peppers, strawberries, two types of cucumbers, yellow squash, zucchini, and even carrots round out our little "farm".

The pic of Asher and some of the produce features "Jon's" cucumber, or so I claim, since it's shaped like a "J". Even though a hailstorm a few weeks ago threatened to destroy our plants, they were resilient and will hopefully survive to the first frost. Now, what to do with all the goodies...anybody want some zucchini bread or salsa? (not together) :)

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/get_player" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"width="320" height="266" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"flashvars="flvurl=http://v24.nonxt2.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?id%3Dc8207f90a1f7ce57%26itag%3D5%26app%3Dblogger%26ip%3D0.0.0.0%26ipbits%3D0%26expire%3D1331123637%26sparams%3Did,itag,ip,ipbits,expire%26signature%3D859442106DF15D0323E955BB3E76A7CF5CC40984.68CBF6FCDBA9EDE5254CCE81039F7EC72861BDA5%26key%3Dck1&iurl=http://video.google.com/ThumbnailServer2?app%3Dblogger%26contentid%3Dc8207f90a1f7ce57%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw160%26sigh%3DHA61vVXg4HKdfB2KrS9HAjjSkCY&autoplay=0&ps=blogger"allowFullScreen="true" />

Milestones

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5352977568023655890" style="DISPLAY: block; After two and a half years and a 600 hour internship, I finally have my Master's in School Counseling! The family endured a less than exciting ceremony (evidenced by the bored look on their faces) to come support me so I was grateful. I told Jon and Eli that the degree belongs as much to them as me because they were there through the many late nights of weekly classes, meetings, and papers. It was fun sharing the event with my friend from work, Sherry, who graduated with an MA in Curriculum and Instruction.

Sunday, June 21st marked the 40th wedding anniversary of Burton and Mary Jane Mires! We recognized them when we stood in church, as we also had Asher dedicated that morning. Talk about an emotional day! This year MJ also retired from 40 years of teaching 1st grade, quite an amazing accomplishment in itself.

Jon just finished another successful HC event last weekend (Thurs-Sat afternoon) and surprised me with a birthday party with neigborhood friends on Saturday evening. That's right, today marked the big 3-0 (or, as I put it since my student loans will be coming due soon...three-OWE!). I had a perfect day from start to finish. Eli was anxious to usher me downstairs for breakfast where a "Happy Birthday" banner was hung in the kitchen. After walking to the pool with the neighbors for a few hours I was treated to lunch by my friend Brianne. Next, I went on a mini shopping spree at Kohl's and spent some of my bday cash.

The day concluded with a family picnic at Castlewood Canyon State Park, a beautiful location about 30 minutes from our house. The only unpleasant part of the experience was the unusually strong (for Colorado) mosquito presence. However, the same rain which has fostered those pests provided for some amazing cloud and rainbow pictures.

It was the perfect end to a perfect day. Here's to another amazing 30 years.

Muscle Man!

This is how I found Asher in his crib after his morning nap today. Here are some random pics of our adventures as a family of four. We took Asher on his first trip to a zoo when we went to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs on April 23. Eli loved feeding the giraffes there.

The boys are both growing so fast (Eli moreso emotionally/intellectually) and are a joy most of the time. Here are some cute pics of them together. The one looks like Asher is telling Eli a secret! And you've gotta love the dinner still on Eli's face in the other.

Finally, our dear friends the Brookfields gave us their old backyard play set when they got a new one, so Jon put it up last week and it's been a popular neighborhood hangout ever since. Asher's not quite ready to enjoy the swing, but we thought we'd try it anyway.

We are excited for the pool to open this weekend as it's been HOT here and we are ready for it to "officially" be summer. Stay tuned for some fun pool pics.

Welcome, Baby Asher!

OK, so my second son is already 16 days old and I'm just getting a blog posted. Welcome to life with two kids!

The past two+ weeks have been busy with getting to know and love our new addition. We spent his first 4 days of life in the hospital, thanks to the emergency c-section I had. It was the scariest hour of my life, since Asher's heart rate was dropping and so was my blood pressure. But I was in the hands of a great physician who works for the Great Physician! Now we are all recovered (mostly, at least I get to drive now!) and enjoying life at home.

We enjoyed visits from Grandma and Grandpa Mires for the first week, followed by Gram Owens (my mom) this past week. After a few days of trying it "on our own" as a family of four, we will welcome my Dad and Stepmom for this weekend. Asher is quite a popular little guy. But although he was born little (7 lbs) and lost 10 ounces in the hospital, he had gained it all back at his checkup four days later! He is growing too fast, I love snuggling with my "peanut".

Big Brother Eli has been spoiled by his visitors as well, and we had an initially rough adjustment period. But he is a great helper and truly loves his baby brother. Yesterday when he got home from Ms. Wendy's (daycare/preschool) the first words out of his mouth weren't "Hi Mom!", but rather "Where's Asher?"
Guess that's a good sign that all are adapting well in the Mires family of 4. Jon and I certainly appreciate that Asher is a good sleeper. We joke that had Elijah been as good at night, we would have had a second child sooner!

Baby Blizzard

The title would imply that this was a "small" blizzard, which it wasn't, really. But we are grateful that as of this writing at 9:50 pm I am not yet in labor. Didn't think I'd be saying that at this point in pregnancy, but it would not be fun to contend with these weather conditions in an emergency!

Jon, Eli, and Kip enjoyed our first big snow in the "new" back yard, braving the single-digit wind chill temps. Kip seemed to love it more than everyone, as evidenced in the mid-air jump picture. He is really quite an agile dog!

Tomorrow Eli wants to go sledding so I suppose that will afford he and daddy some more bonding time. The blizzard warning should be lifted by6:00am so I'll be ready to deliver again. On Dec. 17th, we flew to Nashville to visit "GG and PaPa" Cross. On our way out, it began to snow heavily so we sat on the runway for 1.5 hours waiting to de-ice. Although frustrating for us, it didn't bother Eli as he took in the free DirectTV. I was just relieved we didn't encounter a situation like what happened two days later: the plane slid off the runway and burst into flames! Once we arrived in Nashville, another great surprise awaited us. Standing at the gate ready to board the plane we'd just exited was our dear friend from Denver (who recently moved to Phoenix) Nicole! Unfortunately we only got to chat for a few minutes, but it was such a serendipitous experience. What are the chances?

After safely arriving at Whitney's grandparents' in Monticello, KY (2 hours north of Nashville), we kicked back for a relaxing week there. We were joined by "Grandma Mel", Grandpa Cross, and Uncle Paul and Aunt Chrissy over that weekend and enjoyed a beautiful Christmas celebration together. Unfortunately, even though Eli got a digital camera, I have no pictures of the fam from the week, at least not fit for this post :)

On our way back to the Nashville airport on Christmas Eve, we stopped by the famous Opryland Hotel. Our dear friends and former neighbors who now live in Nashville, Holly and Miranda, joined us for a delightful lunch and stroll through the beautiful resort.

Jon's parents and our dog greeted us at the airport to take us home to our first Christmas in Colorado. Eli awoke to a plethora of gifts from Santa, including his favorite, the Smart Cycle.

After a few days with the Mires grandparents, we spent some time around the house and running errands around town. Then, on New Year's Eve, we ventured east again. The last night of the year was spent in the pleasant company of old friends and their families in McCook, NE. After cheering on the Huskers to a bowl victory on New Year's Day, we were joined by Aunt Janet, cousin Angela and our new baby cousin Myles from Topeka. Myles is adorable and Eli demonstrated great big brother potential around him.

The next two days we drove back and forth to Atwood, KS to visit with extended family and celebrate Christmas once more. We had a great time watching all the kids run around with each other.

We returned home to Colorado on the 4th and were greeted by a few inches of snow! Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to change the fact we had to go to work the next day. But it's been a good week back after a long and relaxing break. The only complaint I (Whitney) have is I gained 6 lbs over that time, and it was NOT all for the baby! Our family had a lot of good food to enjoy over the holidays!

It's a healthy baby!

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/get_player" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"width="320" height="266" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"flashvars="flvurl=http://v10.nonxt4.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?id%3De686c7a6672de95d%26itag%3D5%26app%3Dblogger%26ip%3D0.0.0.0%26ipbits%3D0%26expire%3D1331123637%26sparams%3Did,itag,ip,ipbits,expire%26signature%3D70F85970DE2EB7BC116BFA8DAEFB5FE6033BA9AF.21B1E8F8A0B332D5BE59F44A3B60AD523A5F5C9%26key%3Dck1&iurl=http://video.google.com/ThumbnailServer2?app%3Dblogger%26contentid%3De686c7a6672de95d%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw160%26sigh%3D-5kWaVxMNp3jPiFefe5wTQsZd9M&autoplay=0&ps=blogger"allowFullScreen="true" />
We went in for the "review of systems" ultrasound today. Even without reason for worry, I had "normal" mommy fears that something could be wrong. During the 40+ minute ultrasound, the tech showed us all the baby's parts (with the exception of the gender-revealing ones!) and it was truly amazing to see everything in place and functional.
Later, during my doctor visit, Dr. Bergstrom asked if I was scared by pregnancy. I knew what he meant and admitted my fears.
He added that it's amazing that as many pregnancies are uncomplicated as they are, given all the potential things that could go wrong. What a blessing it is to have our friend and brother, Dr. Roy, alongside us again during this miraculous process.
I'm still in awe of the miracle of it all! We are so blessed with a healthy 3-year-old (who just had his first bout of strep this week), and now a healthy baby! Although I'm really hoping for a girl, I'm delighted already in having a "normal" child. God is so good!
Technology is so amazing too. We got a disc of the exam with selected pics and videos. The baby is very active and in this clip "waves" for the "camera". Fall in Colorado finds me missing the amazing colors of the midwest, but loving the unique Aspen features in our mountains.
Last weekend we took advantage of the great weather to visit the Colorado Railroad Museum for a "Day Out with Thomas". Eli and his buddies Caleb and Micah and their families had a blast riding the train and exploring the sights.
This weekend we ventured west to the gorgeous mountains of Glenwood Springs and Aspen. We stayed at the Hot Springs Lodge in Glenwood, which is conveniently across from the world's largest hot springs pool. It was fun swimming in late Sept. in a 90+ degree pool! It was the highlight of Eli's weekend.
The highlight of the trip for me was visitng the beautiful Maroon Bells outside of Aspen. My pics just don't do it justice! Jon had to work at the college fair all day, so Eli and I enjoyed the chance to explore the outdoor "playground" (he kept asking where the swings and slides were). I told him that the playgrounds that God makes don't need those things. (I did end up appeasing his desire for a playground with a slide when we ventured back into Aspen).
On Saturday we rode the gondola up Aspen (Ajax) mountain to an elevation of over 11,000 feet. Although it was cloudy and drizzly at times, the views were still amazing.
After such an amazing weekend, it's hard to get back to work. But stay tuned for more fall fun as I'm hoping to get us to a corn maze/pumpkin patch soon.

Birthday Celebrations!

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_YPkEKP31FgQ/SM3OULU_jMI/AAAAAAAAAFU/r-KJJ1bDlec/s320/blowing+out+three.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5246075986990042306" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_YPkEKP31FgQ/SM3OUqqU_eI/AAAAAAAAAFc/LIRc6RZdb5o/s320/bounce+house.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5246075995401027042" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_YPkEKP31FgQ/SM3NJFooo4I/AAAAAAAAAFE/ILYqKC-Db60/s320/eli+the+pitcher.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5246074696971625346" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_YPkEKP31FgQ/SM3NJVJc8cI/AAAAAAAAAFM/HR0OlsjDrbg/s320/ice+cream+at+ball+game.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5246074701135802818" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_YPkEKP31FgQ/SM3M21b7pEI/AAAAAAAAAE8/1p4YI8hGdrU/s320/Jon+33.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5246074383385732162" />
Wow, it's been over a month since our last entry. Guess we've been busy with life...and I've been exhausted with the first trimester of pregnancy. But at twelve weeks now, I'm finally getting some energy back!
September has been a fun month of birthday celebrations for the Mires "men". Jon celebrated his 30-something on Labor Day and his folks were in town for the holiday weekend as well. Grandma/MJ made him a "cake" (sourdough loaves, as Jon's been on a strict low-carb diet and didn't even enjoy his bday loaves) complete with 30+ candles!
On Labor Day we took in a Rockies/Giants game and Eli enjoyed posing in the player scenes, as well as the ice cream cone!
This afternoon we turned our back yard into a sports-themed toddler mayhem for Eli's 3rd birthday party. 20 of his closest friends, neighbors, church buddies, and daycare pals turned out, along with their families. It was quite a crazy time, but the kids really enjoyed the bounce house we rented. Fortunately, no one got hurt too seriously so we won't have to call Grandpa Cross for legal help.
Eli wore a "Big Brother" shirt for the occasion, as it's become nearly impossible to hide the "evidence" of my pregnancy at this point! He's still not sure what being a big brother is all about, but he knows there is a baby in mommy's tummy. Friday we will take him with us to the doc to hear the heartbeat, so hopefully that will help things sink in for him. We'll keep you posted on the excitement on our end!

(End of Summer) Fun!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_YPkEKP31FgQ/SJpw5yJchEI/AAAAAAAAAE0/A4388NXULe4/s320/two+men+in+a+tub.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5231618055160497218" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_YPkEKP31FgQ/SJpwe_fsocI/AAAAAAAAAEM/9BjViV7_loc/s320/Mires+Camping.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5231617594887020994" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_YPkEKP31FgQ/SJpwfHe1L_I/AAAAAAAAAEU/zSaa7e6INT0/s320/Hotel+Bellhop.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5231617597030871026" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_YPkEKP31FgQ/SJpwfI2PXRI/AAAAAAAAAEc/ikamRgi13Is/s320/Making+Smores.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5231617597397490962" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_YPkEKP31FgQ/SJpwfUODMvI/AAAAAAAAAEk/lWsfeGO8qh0/s320/Golf+Boys.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5231617600450147058" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_YPkEKP31FgQ/SJpwfhE0uZI/AAAAAAAAAEs/kI7YJ0J7dwI/s320/Relaxin+in+the+pool.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5231617603901110674" />
It's been another long time since the last post, and since I (Whitney) go back to school tomorow (GASP!), thought I'd better get some pics up here! We enjoyed a family camping trip last weekend, our first two-nighter. It was complete with Kip and "Uncle" Kevin. Eli loved checking out the campground's amenities, like the playground and miniature golf course.(Quote of the experience: "I did better than Tiger!" proclaimed Eli after his round!) He also ventured into the delicious world of s'more making.
After over three weeks of 90+ degree days, we are finally getting some relief. The heatwave stretch broke an over 100-year old record. We tried to beat the heat with Eli's backyard pool (compliments of the Mires grandparents), which Jon found himself in after a hot mowing session. Later, the same pool was a great bathtub for Kip.
Now that we're finally settled into our house, we'd love to have some visitors. Guess I still need to post some pics of this house, but they're not as fun as people pics! Now it's off to bed for some needed rest before a big "first" day of school!

AHH Alaska!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_YPkEKP31FgQ/SHpdqicHAFI/AAAAAAAAADk/kK2GZhNB1sM/s320/Waterfall+Couple.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5222589703270105170" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_YPkEKP31FgQ/SHpdrDK0qoI/AAAAAAAAADs/zWLm7zLTOik/s320/Pearly+Couple.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5222589712055970434" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_YPkEKP31FgQ/SHpdrUGE9PI/AAAAAAAAAD0/pxFuFAALMrU/s320/Jon+and+Whit+Skagway+Shore.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5222589716599469298" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_YPkEKP31FgQ/SHpdr0jlRuI/AAAAAAAAAD8/wQhAScgx7pU/s320/Mires+at+Mendenhall.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5222589725313156834" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_YPkEKP31FgQ/SHpdsJ72RNI/AAAAAAAAAEE/WHSfuTIazGA/s320/Mires+at+Market.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5222589731052078290" />
Wow! The primary purpose of our trip was Tasha's high school graduation, but we were also able to visit lots of other family members. On Thursday we drove to Cincinnati to our cousin Rhonda's house. There we got to spend time with Whitney's Mom,Stepdad, Aunt, Uncle, and several cousins. It was a beautiful day and Eli loved jumping on the trampoline. It was too short of a visit, but very nice to see family who live too far away :-(
There is never enough time when we are in town to see everyone, but we did enjoy seeing the Cross family (Grandma and Papa and Melanie's family) as well as our friends the Arndts (Grady is 3 1/2 and Macy is 18 months). Some highlights included Eli's exploring of the pool, fishing (he caught "fwee fish" with hot dogs!) in the backyard pond, and celebrating Tasha's graduation. Even though it was a long commencement ceremony, Eli was a trooper and on the way home announced that he was "Very patient!". What a talker! (This was after he pointed to his play watch and said it was getting dark soon).
Now that we are home it's time to start some serious packing! Yes! We FINALLY got a good offer on our house, so we're closing on June 26 and moving about 3.5 miles away to a larger home. Pics to follow!

May Day!

Happy May Day! Although around here it felt more like Christmas! It was snowing most of the day (after 80 degrees yesterday) so it left a nice covering on the grass and slush in the road. But most of it is gone already!
I don't have any pics to post, but thought I'd blog about our crazy Colorado weather.
I also had an interesting professional day. I took the afternoon off to go to a "Multiple Pathways to Graduation" (dropout prevention)seminar downtown. After enjoying a lunch at Olive Garden with Jon, I was dropped off at the Light Rail station to take the train (cheaper than driving given the cost of gas and parking!). I was pleasantly surprised upon arriving at the seminar to see the opening speech being given by Colorado's Governor Bill Ritter. I'm not a Democrat but voted for him anyway since he is a champion for public education and pro-life! After several engaging and though-provoking speeches by various professionals in the community, the session closed with a speech by Denver's Mayor Hickenlooper. So I heard two politicians in one afternoon, all in a small conference area. And all free! With no political agendas being pushed! Unheard of these days!
The train ride home was also interesting, as it was packed with commuters but was virtually silent as they sat and read, did business on laptops, etc.
Our family squeezed in a quick dinner together before I dashed back to school to attend 8th grade parent night. So today I accrued 8 more hours towards my 100 hours of practicum...I'm well on the way on my path to graduation.
Tomorrow I will accompany our senior class to Dave and Buster's and the Zoo, which will hopefully be warmer than it was today. Then I get the pleasure of chaperoning prom from 10-12 Saturday night, so it's a working weekend. I'm sure I'll have some good pics to post of those soon. Stay tuned...

When Daddy's Away...

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_YPkEKP31FgQ/SA6Nw3Z9NRI/AAAAAAAAACk/bqni3ZzlDsU/s320/Elmo+Show.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5192243291050816786" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_YPkEKP31FgQ/SA6NxXZ9NSI/AAAAAAAAACs/TexUHeSiLXc/s320/Spring+2008+010.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5192243299640751394" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_YPkEKP31FgQ/SA6Nx3Z9NTI/AAAAAAAAAC0/zdZr1syRkHk/s320/Spring+2008+013.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5192243308230686002" />
...Mom and Eli Play!
This weekend while Jon was in Arizona and Vegas for work, Eli and I kept busy. Friday night we went to our friends' the Durbins for a home group dinner. Saturday morning began with a bike ride to the park, where we met with Key Club kids from Vista to help with Battle of the Bands. After a good time there, we headed back UPHILL (causing me to realize how out of shape I am!) to go to Caleb's birthday party. There we had a great time with lots of friends from Church, but unfortunately I forgot my camera.
After a nap, we headed to DU to take in the Sesame Street Live show: Elmo Grows Up! Eli really enjoyed his first (hopefully of many)stage show.
As if that were not enough to exhaust us, we started again Sunday after church with Taylor's 4th birthday party. It was held at the House of Bounce, so kids young and old loved the exercise and had plenty of "floor burns" to prove it!
After a quick nap, we were off again, this time to celebrate a Passover Seder at our neighbor's mother's home in Denver. It was so kind of them to invite us, and we learned some more about the Jewish culture while enjoying a delicious meal.
After all that, we were ready for Dad to come home! Thankfully he returned safely late Sunday night after a long drive. Good thing we don't have weekends like this every week!

Sacramental Weekend

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_YPkEKP31FgQ/R_qs0eaUy7I/AAAAAAAAACM/4mDgQY5efOM/s320/IMG_0831.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5186647938387200946" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_YPkEKP31FgQ/R_qs0uaUy8I/AAAAAAAAACU/o183q8CkSLo/s320/IMG_0836.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5186647942682168258" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_YPkEKP31FgQ/R_qs0-aUy9I/AAAAAAAAACc/MEnpW5W7jL8/s320/IMG_0874.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5186647946977135570" />
No, I didn't write "Sacramento" weekend...never been to California aside from a layover in LA once. But I hope to visit that fine state some day.
This weekend was a joyous one, filled with the celebrations of a dear friend's wedding and another beloved's baptism and birthday party.
Friday night we enjoyed a lovely rehearsal and luau-themed meal at church. Following the festivities, I (Whitney) joined Jon and Eli for the basketball coach/family end-of-season party. I hear that Eli was quite the "groom" for the girls, so I'm excited to see those pics.
Saturday was devoted to fulfilling my duties as the bride's "personal attendant", which was rewarding but exhausting! Laura looked so radiant and had a beautiful wedding. I'm so delighted that the former "Miss Cross" (me) was able to be a part of the new "Mrs. Cross" (Laura). I'm convinced we're related, we just need to find it officially in our family trees.
On Sunday we were blessed to be a part of our friends' the Brookfields celebration of their daughter Kylie's baptism. Jon was honored to serve as Kylie's Godfather. The beautiful ceremony was in the family's UM church, which is the same denomination to which Whitney still technically belongs. After the service, we joined others at Kylie's house to enjoy brunch in honor of her baptism and first birthday!
Now we are exhausted after an eventful weekend (which also included Jon's attending the Rockies 2nd home game) but grateful for this beautiful life with such amazing friends!

Happy Easter!

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_YPkEKP31FgQ/R-bwReaUy3I/AAAAAAAAABs/moDmNlo_mRI/s320/Colorful+hands.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5181092604348255090" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_YPkEKP31FgQ/R-bwR-aUy4I/AAAAAAAAAB0/KBa1hpnWqtE/s320/easter+bunny.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5181092612938189698" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_YPkEKP31FgQ/R-bwSeaUy5I/AAAAAAAAAB8/2dxyQKw49g8/s320/cool+shades.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5181092621528124306" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_YPkEKP31FgQ/R-bwSuaUy6I/AAAAAAAAACE/74v5HxZ9rGE/s320/catching+bubbles.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5181092625823091618" />
We were blessed with another beautiful Easter celebration! Although the weather was a bit chilly in the morning (25 and about an inch of snow!) it was almost 60 by the time we returned from a glorious resurrection worship service. This morning, Eli awoke to find that the Easter bunny left him a basket of toys. His favorite was the red ball he'd requested. After his nap, he went outside to find that the "Grandparents" Easter Bunny had also visited, and had hidden lots of eggs, candy, and toys in our yard. His favorite (besides the bubbles) is the giant Tonka dump truck.
We had a great time coloring eggs yesterday, Eli is becoming a pro at naming the colors (even in Spanish like Dora, Diego, and Mommy!).
The grandparent bunnies are also dental-hygiene-conscious, so Eli also received a new toothbrush and toothpaste to make sure he doesn't get any "tooth owies" from all the candy!
What a delightful day. Off to work tomorrow after a productive Spring break for Whitney! Soon we will have summer adventures to report.

Family Fun

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_YPkEKP31FgQ/R93c4Wem8YI/AAAAAAAAAAk/xeiTgN4aHJk/s320/Sweeping+with+Dad.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5178538007210684802" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_YPkEKP31FgQ/R93c42em8ZI/AAAAAAAAAAs/Li5xgRO2q0c/s320/My+Dad+Rocks.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5178538015800619410" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_YPkEKP31FgQ/R93c5Wem8aI/AAAAAAAAAA0/TidtbL3I-LI/s320/Eberts+and+Eli.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5178538024390554018" />
Since we've entered the world of blogging, not much has changed with us. We still have our house on the market, which means lots of cleaning and leaving for showings (and no-shows who leave us quite frustrated!). Eli likes to "help" with our efforts with his own pint-sized vacuum.
We recently found a new hobby after a friend gave us a Play Station: Guitar Hero.(Even though Jon got kicked out of band for lacking rhythm, he's still pretty good at the game!). Therefore, Eli needed his own "tar", so we found him a Backyardigans one which he absolutely loves. Mommy also found him a cute t-shirt to remind everyone of what a cool Daddy Jon is!
Dining out with a kiddo is always an adventure, but more fun with other kids around. So we spend a lot of time with our friends Max and Zoe and their parents. This weekend we ate at CiCi's pizza (one of Mommy's all time favorites) and got to play in their game room for a while after dinner.
Eli is looking forward to the Easter Bunny's visit, and dropped several hints about his favorite candy and toys today at the grocery. Hopefully Peter Cottontail will not be coming in snow again this year, although we are expecting up to a foot of snow tonight and tomorrow...perhaps some snow pics will follow!

Entering the world of blogs

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_YPkEKP31FgQ/R84Jxhp44pI/AAAAAAAAAAM/7jV35R1hTEc/s320/Dec+07-Jan08+066.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5174083768347583122" />
Here we are!
First it was Myspace, then Facebook...now BLOGSPOT!
We have arrived...that calls for celebration.
